Our main exhibition HJEMLAND ("homeland") tells the story about how Norway's national identity was forged in the period 1855–1905, when our union with Sweden ended. Artists like Erik Werenskiold from Kongsvinger were instrumental in shaping the self image of the young industrial nation about to free itself from European ideals and styles, illustrating folk tales and sagas.
Visitors may also get a peek inside Elvis Presly Boulevard, the writers' office of local novelist Levi Henriksen. His about 30 works map out a literary universe drawing on the author's Pentecostal upbringing and life in rural Kongsvinger, showing small towns can nurture big dreams.
